Santander Universities has today announced it will extend its partnership with Royal Holloway for a further three years; donating over £185,000, starting from September 2020. By the end of 2023, Santander will have donated £1m to the university, which will have enabled us to offer invaluable opportunities to our students.

Santander Universities, a division of Santander UK, collaborate with a large network of university partners to remove barriers to higher education for students whose ambitions aren’t always matched by their means.

The donations to Royal Holloway have helped to provide scholarships and internships, funding for overseas travel, and support with entrepreneurship.

More than 300 students have benefitted with 70 students having been supported through scholarships and more than 60 students having received life changing internships through the support of employability initiatives.

Focusing on wider participation is an increasing priority for Santander, in terms of the support the company gives to universities and students.

Professor Paul Layzell, Principal of Royal Holloway, University of London, said: “We are delighted to be extending our relationship with Santander Universities to further inspire our students to find their purpose and achieve their goals.

“Such incredible support enables us to carry on supporting students for their future and provide them with invaluable opportunities to succeed.

“We look forward to this year’s wide variety of projects, from engineering scholarships to support for the Student Union’s work with BAME students.”

Matt Hutnell, Director of Santander Universities UK, said: “Santander is committed to supporting higher education as well as local communities across the UK.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with Royal Holloway for a further three years and look forward to working together in providing even more opportunities which will benefit both students and the local community over the coming years.”
