Students join Royal Holloway from across the world, and therefore we accept a broad range of qualifications to our courses. Your application will be considered carefully on your individual merits.

All teaching at Royal Holloway (apart from some language courses) is in English. You therefore need to have good enough written and spoken English to cope with your studies right from the start.

Qualifications we accept:

  • IELTS (this includes the IELTS indicator)
  • Pearson Test of English
  • Cambridge ESOL
  • TOEFL iBT (this includes the Special Home Edition)

If your current English language level doesn't quite meet the requirement for your chosen course, you may be eligible to take our of our Pre-sessional English language programmes. These are offered 12, eight and four weeks prior to the start of your course.

All postgraduate taught courses have an annual fee. You’ll also need to take into account your living costs. Tuition fees cover all academic-related costs, such as teaching and supervision, use of the library and computing facilities, examinations and administration. Visit the Fees and Funding section to find out more.

We also offer a wide range of scholarships for international students. You can get an idea of the type of scholarships we offer by viewing our Scholarships page. Please note, for September 2023 courses, the majority of our scholarships have not yet been confirmed and applications are not yet open.

You may require a visa to study at Royal Holloway depending on your nationality and status.

Visit the Before you arrive section on our website for further information or contact a member of our Student Recruitment team if you have any additional questions.
