Welcome to the Department of Drama, Theatre and Dance

We’re one of the most innovative, rigorous and lively drama departments in the world, with a number of first-class learning and performing spaces. Our academic staff covers a diverse swathe of research perspectives, and we welcome our postgraduates to attend our researched events and participate in our research groups, sharing practice performance of different kinds.

With close links to central London, we have access to a wealth of resources within Drama, Theatre and Dance, which allows our students to receive first-hand experience learning from and working with renowned figures of the industry. Our MA Theatre Directing offers the chance to be taught by renowned theatre director, Katie Mitchell OBE.

Our research community offers a rich variation of training opportunities, where you’ll study in discipline-specific workshops and get to know your fellow research students. We also have a large group of about 70 PhD students in the department at any one time, so you’ll always feel supported as part of the research community.

We have a variety of professional-standard performance and rehearsal spaces across campus, from the new Caryl Churchill Theatre to the Victorian Boilerhouse Theatre.
