We are a large, vibrant community of historians whose collective and individual research represents the breadth and variety of the discipline. Our research and teaching open the way to a surprisingly wide world of the past, from Ancient Greece to Modern China, and proudly supports the study of gender, minority and queer histories.

We have an international reputation for teaching, research and public engagement. We collaborate with other universities, heritage, media, policy makers and creative industries to foster world-leading research that innovates and shapes the discipline.

Our postgraduate students enjoy a diverse range of courses, from Late Antique and Byzantine Studies to Crusader Studies and Public History. We have a large and lively community of postgraduates here, many of them part-time. With more than 30 permanent members of staff, we offer an exceptional variety of expertise and high-quality research. All of this is situated in the backdrop of our historical Founder’s Building and Runnymede, the riverside site of the sealing of the Magna Carta.
