CRIS Research Seminar - How to Design Sustainable Experiences

  • Date 10 Nov 2020
  • Time 3pm UK Time
  • Category Seminar

Please join us and our special guest speaker Jannsen Santana, a PhD student at ESCP, Paris, and visiting scholar at RHUL/CRIS, for an in-depth discussion on developing environmental awareness among consumers and producers for sustainable spiritual experiences, through proposed sustainable solutions.

Abstract:
Collective experiences can have an environmental impact. Based on ethnographic data collection in pilgrimages in a variety of countries, it became clear how these mass movements can generate waste to the environment, especially when considering waste disposal practices. This applied research project aims to develop environmental impact awareness among consumers and producers in spiritual experiences by proposing a set of changes to consumption practices. Three strategies are put forth to lead to more sustainable experiences: (i) using local and historical symbols to promote awareness; (ii) analyzing local consumption practices; and (iii) proposing suitable sustainable solutions. This project contributes to the design of consumer experiences and engages researchers in the environmental impacts around their fieldwork.
