2023 Transformative Consumer Research Conference

2023 Transformative Consumer Research Conference at Royal Holloway University of London, 18-20 June 2023.

The School of Business and Management is delighted to host the 2023 Transformative Consumer Research Conference.

Transformative Consumer Research (TCR) aims to develop rigorous scientific findings in collaboration with stakeholder organisations, to alleviate social problems and contribute to real world impact. It encourages partnerships between delegates; scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds with varying levels of experience and non-academic contributors (industry, NGO, civil society movements) who share common commitments to social and ecological problems (related to consumers/consumption) to come together for several days to engage in mutually supportive, research-intensive discussion.

Taxi from London Heathrow Airport
If called on arrival, the cash price from London Heathrow (any terminal) is approximately £40.00 with Windsor Cars. The driver will meet you at a given location within arrivals. The collection point at Terminals 1-4 is at W H Smith in arrivals. At Terminal 5, the collection point is at Costa Coffee. The collection point will be confirmed when you call. A taxi from Gatwick costs approximately £80.00 and should be pre-booked. This price includes a 40 minute waiting time and parking for up to an hour once the flight has landed. Please note payment by credit card will incur a charge.
Sharing a taxi with other delegates will help keep costs to a minimum.

By bus (from London Heathrow Airport)
There is a reasonable bus service from Heathrow Terminal 5 to Royal Holloway. The number 8 bus leaves from outside Terminal 5 and not from the Central Bus Station. If you arrive at another terminal, please follow flight connection signs for internal airport transfer to T5. Timetables for the number 8 can be found through the following link:

There are usually taxis waiting outside Egham station to take you to Royal Holloway, which is located less than a mile from the station. https://www.southwesternrailway.com/.

By car
Royal Holloway is on the A30, 19 miles from central London and about a mile south-west of the town of Egham. It is 2 miles from junction 13 of the M25 (London Orbital). After leaving the motorway, take the A30 west, signposted to Bagshot and Camberley (this is the Egham by-pass). At the first roundabout, take the second exit. At the second roundabout, take the second exit and continue on the A30 up Egham Hill. Royal Holloway is on the left at the top of the hill. Free parking is available on campus. The car parks are indicated on the campus map. The SAT NAV post code is TW20 0EX.

On campus accommodation for the nights of Sunday 18th June and Monday 19th June are included in the registration fee. These are self-contained premium double en-suite study bedrooms (for single occupancy) in the University’s student halls, arranged in flats of 6/8 rooms exclusively for TCR conference delegates. There are shared kitchen/social areas, allowing ample opportunity to network with your fellow delegates. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the pantries for delegates to use.

Rooms also include:
• Full bed linen
• Basic toiletries and towels
• WiFi
• Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the shared kitchen (Fairtrade products)

Should you wish to book additional nights on Saturday 17 June or Tuesday 20 June/Wednesday 21 June to accommodate flights/travel plans there will be opportunities to do this via the registration site at an additional cost.

For delegates wishing to stay off campus, there are hotels in the local area (at various price options). These include:

Please note that the registration fee includes on campus accommodation, regardless of whether you choose to stay on or off campus. Please indicate on the registration site if you are planning to stay in alternative accommodation.

No vacancies exist for those who have not pre-booked accommodation.

Should tracks wish to spend longer working in their tracks, we can offer additional space on Saturday 17th of June, however we are unable to facilitate additional room space for tracks to work on Wednesday 21st June due to campus preparations for a new event. Please contact the Conference Co-chairs directly if you would like to request a dedicated room/space for your track team to pre- work on Saturday 17th June (subject to availability).

Given that this conference includes all-day working sessions, typically attendees do not travel with their partners/families. We are therefore suggesting to attendees that an off-campus hotel would be more appropriate if they are traveling with their family or partner (see the Accommodation off campus tab above).

For anyone arriving earlier than Sunday 18 or departing after Tuesday 20 June, there are numerous places to eat within walking distance or a short taxi ride from the University campus.
