  • Date02 September 2022

We are pleased to announce that a new video recording facility is now available to make our teaching in maths even more interactive.

This fantastic new facility has been developed on campus with the specific needs of teaching mathematics in mind.

The main star is the “lightboard”. Simply, this is a glass screen that one can write on, “chalk & talk” style. It means that both the maths, and the lecturer get recorded at once, making for a much more natural video. Audio and video are both high quality.

The room also has a green screen available which can be used to place yourself in front of a powerpoint presentation, or the document scanner.

We have already started to produce new teaching materials using this facility, and expect to see them being incorporated into our modules this year. An example, exhibiting more of the system’s capabilities, may be viewed here.

Funding came from an Office for Students Capital Grant worth almost £0.5million led by Prof. James Knowles, within which this flagship project was delivered by Dr. Kay.
