Michael Fuller

Double Bass

Michael Fuller moved to London to join the Philharmonia Orchestra in 2010. Prior to the Philharmonia he played in the Minnesota Orchestra for two years, served as Assistant Principal Bass of the New Haven Symphony, and was an active freelance musician in New York City.

Michael is also a founding member and Principal Bass of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra. He has enjoyed performing, recording, and touring the world with these and other ensembles, playing with many of the great conductors and soloists of our time.

Michael Fuller grew up in California, spending most of his free time playing basketball and other sports. As a teenager he discovered the electric bass and became very enthusiastic about practicing and making music with his friends. During this brief career as a rock musician he recorded several albums and played in clubs around the San Francisco Bay Area. At 19 he began playing the double bass, having become more and more interested in classical music. After one year on the instrument he joined the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, a great experience that inspired him to continue on his new path. Another year later he was accepted into the Manhattan School of Music in New York City as a student of Timothy Cobb, Principal Bass of the Metropolitan Opera. Other influential teachers include Leigh Mesh, Associate Principal at the Met; Shinji Eshima of the San Francisco Opera, and Barry Green. He is currently Double Bass Instructor at Royal Holloway, University of London.
