'To lead or to follow: a practical and critical engagement with ensemble rehearsal, direction and performance from continuo to contemporary'. This module aims to embed the student in the historical and contemporary roles of the keyboard player. Through lectures, workshops, coaching and rehearsals, participation, and observation the student will engage with the skills of reading notations and playing instruments that might occur in the professional working context.

The student will become acquainted with figured bass, historical performance practice, various keyboard instruments, sight-reading skills, improvisation, transposition, and strategies too for working in contemporary music performance settings.
