Jun 04 2023

Well done, you’ve made it! It’s the end of the academic year, and today you will have recieved your last student newsletter until September 2023.

Many of you will have completed your assessments and exams or be about to do so. As term ends on Friday (9 June), I wanted to send you all my heartfelt congratulations on completing this year - you should be very proud of what you have achieved and the hard work that you have put in.

It’s been great for me to get to meet so many of you this year and learn more about your interests and aspirations, as well as to really appreciate what Royal Holloway students contribute to the life of the University on a daily basis. It has been terrific that so many of you have joined in with various events on both our central London and Egham campuses. I recently had the pleasure of meeting the ‘Love Your Campus’ team of student volunteers working with our gardeners to do ecological improvement work in our Arboretum and to hear their passion for engaging with biodiversity issues. We’ve celebrated 20 years of Royal Holloway volunteering, held our first hugely successful sustainability careers fair, and our Women’s Rugby team were awarded the Rugby for All award by England Rugby for their commitment to diversity and inclusion in the university game. These are just a few things you do that make me proud.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you back on campus in September, but for those of you who are leaving us, I hope we will meet again to celebrate you at your summer graduation ceremonies in July, but I also wish you the brightest of times to come.

Please can I encourage all of you to take some time to enjoy a well-deserved break over the summer vacation weeks. As ever, it’s important to take care of yourself both physically and mentally – so please do make sure you get enough rest and do some of the things you really love, from sports to music to reading. Find time to ground yourself and be creative, but most of all, enjoy your summer break!
