1. What qualifications do I get at the end of the course?
The Royal Holloway on campus and online pre-sessional programmes do not lead to a formal academic qualification but successfully completing one of the courses will give you progression to your chosen Royal Holloway degree.
2. Is there a scholarship for studying the PELP?
Yes, all students who successfully proceed on to Royal Holloway from the Royal Holloway 4, 8 or 12 week Presessional English Language Programme (PELP) in 2020 will qualify for the PELP Progression Scholarship. The Scholarship is 25% of the total PELP tuition fees which will be taken off the first year of degree tuition fees. Terms and conditions apply. Please view the PELP page for full details.
3. Do I need a visa to study an online course?
No. You do not need a visa to study an online PELP course.
4. Will I need a UKVI Secure English Language Test (SELT) to study on the online PELP?
You will would not need a UKVI SELT to study the online PELP but you will need a Royal Holloway accepted English language test. A full list of the approved English Language tests that you can take can be found on the english language requirements page.
5. If I complete the online PELP during Summer 2020 can I use it to start a degree course in 2021?
If you successfully complete the online 4, 8 or 12 week PELP, you can use it to enter a Royal Holloway degree in September 2020, January 2021 or September 2021.
6. If I complete the online PELP during Autumn 2020 can I use it to start a degree course in 2021?
If you successfully complete the online 4, 8 or 12 week Autumn PELP, you can use it to enter a Royal Holloway degree in January 2021 or September 2021.
7. Should I apply through Study Group or Royal Holloway?
Once you have accepted an offer to study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level at Royal Holloway, you can then apply for one of our on campus or online pre-sessional programmes through your Applicant portal.
8. Does the full tuition fee need to be paid before I start the online PELP?
If you are going to study the 12 or 8 week PELP, you can accept your offer by paying at least 50% of your tuition fee which is due before you start the course (50% of 12 week PELP fees is £2,003 and 50% of the 8 week PELP fees is £1,368). The remaining tuition fees will be due halfway through your English language programme.
If you are going to study the 4 week PELP, you can accept your offer by paying your full tuition fees (£1,470) before the start of your English language programme.

9. What personal data will Study Group receive from Royal Holloway?
Study Group will receive the following data from Royal Holloway when you accept your offer to study on one of the online PELP:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Royal Holloway student number
- Royal Holloway and personal email address
- Nationality
- Country of residence
10. What will Study Group do with my personal data?
Study Group will use your personal data to deliver the online Pre-sessional English Language Programme, including delivering teaching and marking assessments. Study Group will share details about your attendance and academic marks with Royal Holloway to inform our decisions about your progression onto a degree programme.
11. Will Study Group keep my data safe?
Yes. We ensure that whenever Royal Holloway sends personal data to a third party, arrangements are in place to ensure that this data is kept in accordance with the requirements of the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and that there are appropriate security measures in place.
12. I am going to be taking one of the Royal Holloway Online Pre-sessional English Programmes delivered by Study Group. What are the technology requirements?
All you will need to study the online Presessional English Programme (PELP) is a personal computer and an internet connection.
To access virtual classroom, course materials, LMS/VLE and undertake assessments, it is important to be prepared with the appropriate technology.
Computer
While it is possible to access and interact with most course content using various tablets and smartphones, such as iPads, iPhones and Android devices, these devices will not work for assessments and therefore it is important that you have a PC or Mac based computer available for use.

Internet Connection
Internet connectivity is required for access to all coursework. Internet connectivity could be in the form of a fixed line connection, 3G/4G, wi-fi or other technologies.
- Minimum: 600kbps download and 600kbps upload speed
- Recommended: at least 1.5Mbps download and 1.5Mbps upload speed
Zoom Restricted Countries
Zoom is used for access to virtual classroom and is therefore an important part of all courses. Zoom is unavailable or restricted in several countries, with the full list available here. While Zoom may still work from the countries listed, individuals should test Zoom using their own equipment to ensure connectivity.
