Your new festival filled with new sounds

NEW SOUNDS is a four-day festival of contemporary music presented by the Department of Music, showcasing some of the best and most innovative modern music at Royal Holloway.

NEW SOUNDS 2024 invites you to explore music you may never have heard before. From transcendental sounds for massed voices to interactive, research-led sessions, cyborg explorations for piano and digital technologies to surround-sound installations, there are a host of opportunities for you to join us and immerse yourself in new sounds. Curated by Dr Nathan James Dearden, the festival will feature appearances from our Quartet-in-Residence, the Tippett Quartet, ground-breaking pianist and researcher, Dr Zubin Kanga, our internationally acclaimed Choir of Royal Holloway, our New Music Collective and New Voices Consort, our 2023-24 cohort of the Picture Gallery Composer-in-Residence scheme, the first outing of our Royal Holloway Percussion Ensemble, our composer-led Campus Echoes soundwalk, plus many of our new music specialists and researchers.

This year's festival will take place between Monday, 11 March 2024 to Thursday, 14 March 2024, in venues across campus.
