PGCR 2017: Giorgio Zampirolo

Selected as part of the 2017 Picture Gallery Composer-in-Residence scheme.

British-Italian drummer and composer Giorgio Zampirolo completed his Bachelor of Music at Royal Holloway, University of London with first-class honours in June 2017. His teachers included Mark Bowden, Helen Grime, Samantha Fernando, and Gavin Higgins. He is now pursuing a Masters at Royal Holloway, University of London with Aaron Holloway-Nahum and John Traill.

He is currently touring the UK with his post-punk band Snapped Ankles dressed as a tree. Their first full-length album 'Come Play The Trees' was released by The Leaf Label at the end of September 2017. In December 2017, they are going to perform at Trans Musicales in Rennes, arguably one of the most significant music festivals in Europe.

Since 2013, he has been collaborating with a team of creative people for performance events called London Topophobia. Following the success of fifteen London Topophobia events, the artist-led group is now planning to bring around the country this platform for sound/music composition, choreography/dance research and performance, performance art, electronics and light/sound installation.
