PGCR 2017: Rock Lee

PGCR 2017: Rock Lee

Selected as part of the 2017 Picture Gallery Composer-in-Residence scheme.

Rock Lee currently studies Music at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he holds an Orchestral Scholarship and is principal second violin of the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. Though he is a newcomer to England, he has already had opportunities to perform with multiple orchestral and choral ensembles both outside of and at the college, under celebrated conductors such as Rebecca Miller and Peter Stark. In June 2016, he went on tour to Vienna with Royal Holloway's prestigious Founder's Choir. He has also taken part in side-by-side projects with the London Mozart Players and Chiltern Music Academy, and performs regularly in amateur musical theatre. He currently continues his studies in the violin with acclaimed violinists Beedarn Chao, Anna Cashell, and Francesca Barritt.

As composer, Rock was recently shortlisted for the London Mozart Players' Fanfare Composition Competition, with his work for two trumpets 'blinds, drawn'. He has also recently had one of his choral compositions, 'as the stars take me', workshopped by The Gesualdo Six at St. John's Smith Square.
