Peter Bourne is a third-year undergraduate music student at Royal Holloway. He is a pianist, trombonist, and composer. Born in Gateshead, he became interested in writing music at the age of 14. As he got older, his love for composition grew, and he began writing music for student films and TV projects for students at the University of Westminster, including the short films The Sheriff of Galway Bay and The Graveyard Shift.

Since studying music at Royal Holloway, Peter has developed his compositional style, studying under composers Aaron Holloway-Nahum, John Trail, Samantha Fernando, Nina Whiteman and Brian Lock. His music has been workshopped by the Tippett Quartet, as well as members of the CHROMA ensemble. Peter has written for a range of instruments and ensembles, including string quartet and choir. He is a versatile composer and is always looking for new compositional ideas and techniques- he has explored experimental piano techniques with his piece Harold and the Giants, procedurally generated lyrics with his piece A Train Can Weep, and has written hybrid electronic-live trombone music. In October, his piece Tic Toc Clocks was premiered by Royal Holloway's award-winning As of Yet Unnamed Wind Quintet in the university’s Picture Gallery.

Peter has a passion for new music and arranged a concert in June showcasing student compositions for Royal Holloway's REPLAY Festival. His final year studies are focussed on composition, and he plans to develop his skills further by taking a masters course in composition. In the future, Peter hopes to make a career out of his music.
