May 28 2023

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of millions of young people's contributions across the UK through volunteering in their communities. This year, it’s even more special to us as we continue to mark 20 years of volunteering at Royal Holloway.

To celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2023, we are holding a few events. On Thursday (1 June) we will be litter picking, tidying up gardens and helping with other conservation activities in the local community and we would love for you to join us for a few hours or so. Please sign-up individually or with a group of friends here.

Between Tuesday (30 May) – Thursday (1 June), the ‘Love your campus’ student group is holding a three-day conservation project in the Arboretum on our Egham campus. Again, you’re welcome to join in, and along with the Estates team, you will create waterways, have the opportunity to listen to environmental speakers, and help to prepare the area for local wildlife. Find out more about the event on the student intranet.

Finally, we’ll end the week with a bang! The Royal Holloway Volunteering Awards are taking place on Monday 5 June supported by Runnymede and Spelthorne Borough Councils. This intergenerational event is run in collaboration with Voluntary Support North Surrey. It will recognise and celebrate the amazing work of all our volunteers across the local area throughout the year. Keep an eye out for the winners!

Volunteering is ultimately a chance to try something new whilst gaining skills and making a difference. If you’d like to get involved, come and see us at the Volunteering Hub at the side of the Davison Building on our Egham campus during term time or explore hundreds of opportunities via our Volunteering Platform.

If you’ve not yet engaged with our 20th Volunteering Anniversary, then do visit our ‘20 Years of Volunteering’ exhibition in the Davison Building atrium before the end of term, discover our special History Hunt across campus and visit our interactive online timeline full of stories and events from the past two decades.
