Research Interests:
Professor Piscopo studies how gender, as a hierarchal social structure, shapes politics and policy, including women’s political participation, women’s political representation, the role of women in government, and the adoption and implementation of gender equality policies. She also studies how gender shapes social movements and processes of democratization and de-democratization, including backlash to gender equality and violence against women in politics. Finally, she studies care policy from the lens of feminist political economy, with a particular emphasis on how governments are renumerating unpaid care work and looking to advance the care society. Her areas of specialization are Latin America, the United States, and Western Europe.
