We are thrilled to share that Bedford alumna, Hedda Bird, has written a compelling new play about Elizabeth Jesser Reid, the pioneering founder of Bedford College. Titled What She Did With What She Had, the production was performed at South Hill Park Arts Centre in Bracknell from 19 to 22 March.

The play told the remarkable story of Elizabeth Jesser Reid, who defied the social norms of her time to establish Bedford College, the first higher education institution for women in the UK. Through powerful storytelling and rich character development, What She Did With What She Had highlighted themes of resilience, empowerment, and the transformative power of education.

Hedda Bird's latest work offered an engaging tribute to a trailblazing figure whose legacy continues to inspire generations of students and academics. We are proud to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of Elizabeth Jesser Reid and thank Hedda Bird for bringing her story to life.
