Recent Graduate mentoring FAQs

These FAQs are here to help you learn more about how Royal Holloway mentoring can help you.

If you have any other questions please contact the Alumni Relations team

Royal Holloway Connect is here to support our most recent graduates as they take their next steps after university. If you are eligible to join the mentoring programme as a mentee you will see the option to ‘Join as Mentee’ when visiting the ‘Mentoring’ section of Royal Holloway Connect.

If you can’t join as a mentee but think you should be able to please let us know.

Yes – we encourage all alumni to consider joining Royal Holloway Connect and becoming a mentor, regardless of age or experience. Your support can be valuable to students and alumni at any point in your career. As a recent graduate, you will have the most relevant experience of applying for jobs, going to interviews etc. This experience could really help a current student or fellow recent graduate.

Read the alumni mentor FAQs for more on what it means to be a mentor.

As a mentee it is your responsibility to take the initiative and drive the mentoring relationship.

Initially, you will need to find and contact a mentor who is best placed to help you. Once a mentor has accepted your request for help be proactive in maintaining contact. Remember that our alumni mentors are here to help guide you, be clear about how you would like them to help you.

If you need help or have any questions you can contact the Alumni Relations team.

As a mentee, you will be able to search a directory of alumni who have signed up to be mentors. You can search based on the industry they work in, what they studied and more.

Once you have found someone who looks like they can help you, spend some time reading their profile to make sure they can help with what you need. When you are happy you can send a request to the mentor.

Please only request help from mentors who have indicated they are able to offer the help you need and who will be able to offer you relevant help (e.g. they work in an industry you are interested in or studied the same course as you etc.)

Mentors are there to guide you based on their experiences and expertise. When you apply for a mentor's help they will have clearly indicated how they are able to help, from specific advice on a CV or application, general advice via email or video chat to offering work experience.

When you first communicate you should clearly outline how they can specifically help you, you can use our helpful guides to clearly lay out what you want to achieve.

New mentors are joining Royal Holloway Connect every day, if you can’t find the right mentor just yet keep checking the platform.
