The Jean Monnet Annual Lecture by the Rt Hon. the Baroness Ashton of Upholland LG GCMG

Cathy Ashton was formerly the European Union’s chief diplomat and the founding High Representative and Vice President for the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (2009-2014). In 2008-2009, she served as the EU Commissioner for Trade, and prior to that she had been the Leader of the House of Lords and had held ministerial office in the governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Baroness Ashton is an alumna of Royal Holloway’s Department of Politics, International Relations, and Philosophy, having graduated from one of our founding institutions Bedford College, University of London in 1977, the first woman in her family to go to university.

Rather than being a formal lecture, this year’s event will take the form of a discussion between Baroness Ashton and students on the future of global security.

A reception will follow this event.

Please note: This event is only for students, staff, and alumni of Royal Holloway [and Bedford New College], University of London. It will be held under the Chatham House Rule: https://www.chathamhouse.org/about-us/chatham-house-rule
