Amanda Claridge

Notice of Amanda's Death

  • Date06 May 2022

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Professor Amanda Claridge.

Amanda had been suffering from an aggressive cancer and her death was not unexpected.

Amanda has been a great colleague and friend to us all. In addition to her many scholarly achievements, she developed our archaeology section and worked with a generation of students before she took retirement.

As one colleague put it, and as we all feel, the news is achingly sad.

We will publish a longer appreciation of her life and work at a later point. For the moment, all our thoughts are with her family and those closest to her. All who knew her, worked with her and were taught by her are bereaved.

If her family would like details of funeral arrangements published, we will do so.

In deepest sorrow.

From all her colleagues and friends in Classics.
