As one of the leading centres of Earth Sciences research and teaching, our reputation and collaborations span the globe.

We investigate the past, present and future of Planet Earth. Our three research centres encourage multidisciplinary activity and support a dynamic community of researchers, and we have world-class facilities and laboratories. In the most recent research excellence framework, 100% of our research environment is rated world-leading or internationally excellent (REF, 2021)

We offer three taught postgraduate MSc courses.

•  MSc Energy Geosciences  has special emphasis on geosciences applied to exploration of energy resources as well as development of renewable and sustainable energy.

•  MSc Environmental Diagnosis & Management  has strong involvement from environmental consultancies, local authorities and regulatory agencies and addresses global environmental and ecological issues impacting health and climate.

•  MSc Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology  focusses on rocks and hydrology of the immediate sub-surface from an engineering perspective and on harnessing natural resources sustainably.

These MSc courses are supported by industrial studentships, and have significant industrial involvement and support. They are internationally acclaimed and provide excellent employment prospects.

In addition, our MSc in Earth Sciences by Research offers a 1-year research project, with training in relevant skills and scientific knowledge.

All MSc courses may be taken full-time or part-time.
