Thinking Deep: Novel Creative Approaches to the Subsurface
Thinking Deep experiments with creative practices and research methods to sense, imagine, and speculate upon the subsurface. To know the subsurface, as scholars have long argued, requires an interdisciplinary approach. The subsurface often defies sensory comprehension, necessitating the natural sciences collaborate with the social sciences to attempt to understand its obduracies and animacies, often in concert with a desire to engineer, extract, or otherwise abstract the subsurface. However, such interdisciplinary research has so far neglected arts and humanities research and practices, and how they might transform how we know the subsurface. Thinking Deep addresses this lacuna by assembling an interdisciplinary group of researchers to explore how creative research and practice-based can sense, imagine, and speculate upon the subsurface.
