Daisy Vatalaro

Daisy studied at Clare College, Cambridge and then with Steven Doane at the Eastman School of Music, New York. She also studied with Louise Hopkins and David Waterman and has taken masterclasses with William Pleeth and Frans Helmerson.For five years Daisy was cellist of the Bronte Quartet. Prize winners at the 8th International String Quartet Competition in Cremona and winners of the Royal Overseas League Chamber Music prize, they performed repeatedly at the Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre, on BBC Radio 3 and at festivals including Cheltenham and Edinburgh. 

Daisy now plays in a wide variety of groups and settings, from Baroque cello to rock festivals, from chamber music and duo projects to freelancing with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Groups she has played with include the Chamber Players, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Orchestra Revolutionnaire et Romantique, Orchestra of the Age of Englightenment, Les Siecles and the Gabrieli Ensemble. She has toured with Imogen Heap and worked with various jazz/rock/alternative musicians including Gilad Atzmon, Robert Wyatt and Elysian Fields.

Daisy teaches Dalcroze Eurythmics and chamber music at Junior Guildhall and Pro Corda, has coached quartets at the Royal College of Music and Trinity College of Music, and has taught at the National Youth String Academy and Cadenza.

She is also Outreach Co-ordinator for Pro Corda, has run courses for Lambeth Inharmony and leads creative musicianship workshops for children with Special Educational Needs. She has taken part in outreach/education work for Wigmore Hall, Spitalfields Music and the Florestan Festival and has run a residential course at Pro Corda for Lambeth In Harmony.

Daisy has written a number of arts articles for the FT Magazine and sleevenotes for recordings by the Dante Quartet and Aronowitz Ensemble.

Daisy joined the faculty at Royal Holloway University of London in October 2024.
