Selected as part of the first Picture Gallery Composer-in-Residence scheme.
Megan’s music is based on narrative, identity and space. Pieces unfold like novels and avoid conventional forms. She is most interested in musics from other cultures and adapting traditional techniques for contemporary composition. Her instrumental music explores preparations and extended techniques that are often based on concealed philosophies. The music represents a deeper thought because this is what moves her to compose but it doesn't require explanation. More often than not these underlying thoughts concern politics, philosophy, literature and/or architecture. Or something else entirely.
Megan was born in England and has a strong desire to leave. She has studied with Christopher Fox, Colin Riley and Jennifer Walshe and remains constantly inspired and challenged by the work of John Cage, Tadao Ando, Maria Chavez, James Joyce and Dostoevsky. In 2016 she was awarded the F I Williams Prize for Composition; the Brunel University Award for Arts & Humanities, and attended the Real Music Academy at Splendor in Amsterdam.
She has written for theatre, film, video games and internationally renowned ensembles such as Apartment House, Distractfold and Kokoro. Her music has most recently been performed at Arts by the Sea Festival in Bournemouth and Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam.
