Career Experience

Graduating with a degree in Physics from Royal Holloway can lead to many different career paths and our degree courses will give you the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a variety of roles.

Skills and Opportunities

Throughout your degree we’ll help you to develop transferable skills and prepare yourself effectively for graduate jobs through careers advice,  and from alumni networking opportunities. We maintain close links with alumni who are happy to share their experiences of what employers are looking for in recent graduates across different industries.

Our whole department is dedicated to embedding employable skills into the curriculum and in supporting students to gain career experience while studying here. It forms a large part of the curriculum particularly in years 2 and 3, giving you an advantage over other students when looking for employment.

As a Physics student you’ll also benefit from the strong links we have with international research laboratories, partner universities and companies, and from the support and resources of our university Careers Centre. PhysSoc organises social and scientific interest events with guest speakers too.

Our degree accreditation by the Institute of Physics means our graduates are eligible for IOP membership and can follow a route to professional registration as RSci or CPhys.

A Physics degree can open the door to almost anything! Physics is a fundamental science training you in complex data analysis, logical and critical thought, problem solving, a deep conceptual understanding of nature, and effective communication skills, all of which are highly regarded by employers.

Recent graduates are working as physicists, aeronautical engineers, science and engineering technicians, scientific researchers, technical sales, finance and investment analysts, management consultants, software designers and in medicine, to name just a few.
