We will discuss our experimental progress in generating macroscopicquantum states using levitated mechanical systems. The key challenge is to enable longfree evolution times for massive coherent states. We will discuss a Talbot-likenanoparticle matterwave interferometer at extended free evolution times includingideas for performing such quantum experiments in free fall. As an alternative approachwe will show progress with coherent expansion protocols for particles in optical traps inorder to achievelarge-mass superpositions. We will further discuss how levitatedparticles can be used for two-mass gravity experiments pushing for small sourcemasses.
