Italy's Elections 2022: Perspectives and Challenges after the Victory of the Populist Right
Tuesday 18 October 18.00-19.15 (UK time)
Online Workshop: click here to join
The landslide victory of the right-wing coalition, led by the populist leader Giorgia Meloni, has raised many debates. Through this workshop, we will analyse and discuss the result and its impact on European politics over the next five years.
The key questions we will address include:
- Did the radical right win at all, or was this the effect of the divisions of the centre-left?
- How did the Italian electoral law influence the elections’ results?
- What should we expect from the right-wing government?
- Does this right-wing turn represent a rupture in the Italian pro-European Union stance?
- And will the right-wing coalition hold together in these turbulent times?
The event is supported by the Democracy and Elections Centre and the Jean Monnet Chair (co-funded by the European Union) at RHUL.
