SCHOOL OF LAW AND SOCIAL SCIENCES ADVISORY BOARD

The School of Law and Social Sciences at Royal Holloway, University of London is establishing an Advisory Board to supports its teaching, research and student employability. The remit of the Board will be to support the work of the School as a whole and its individual departments.

Advisory Board Terms of Reference

  1. To provide strategic advice on the development and implementation of the work of the School of Law and Social Sciences and on external perceptions of its education and research in an international context.
  2. To assist with securing and maintaining links with relevant sectors, professions and civil society organisations for the benefit of the school.
  3. To assist the school in understanding the challenges and long-term developments in board members’ sectors where the school’s research expertise would have value and to support the school in maximising the impact of its research activities.
  4. To provide advice on the taught programmes offered by the school in particular their relevance to career prospects for students and societal impact.
  5. To advise on and support the establishment of new teaching programmes.
  6. To inform and support measures to improve the employability of students.
  7. To promote the reputation of the school and its activities through members’ networks.
  8. To contribute to the life of the School of Law.

The advisory board will not have executive powers or responsibilities.

At the request of the head of School, individual members may also:

  • Give guest lectures
  • Mentor students and provide student enrichment activities such as visits
  • Mentor staff
  • Raise funds
  • Provide individual advice on specific issues at the request of the Head of School
  • And undertake other relevant activities

Membership

Members will be appointed for a period of three years, renewable once by mutual agreement.  Appointments will be phased so that only a minority terminate each year. A chairperson will be appointed by the Head of School. There will be a maximum of twelve members and a minimum of eight members.

Meetings

Meetings to be held four times a year, two in Bedford Square and two in Egham.
