In this talk Curator Dr Laura MacCulloch explores the inclusion of a black figure in the centre of the painting Peter the Great at Deptford Dockyard. The picture was painted by successful Victorian painter Daniel Maclise whose largest work ‘The Death of Nelson’ adorns the Royal Gallery of the Palace of Westminster.
