History Applicant Activity Hub
We cannot wait to welcome you to the Department of History this autumn and help you start your journey to becoming a historian. We think that being a good historian is all about asking the right questions about sources, whether primary or secondary, from centuries-old manuscripts to recent films.
We asked our historians to suggest books, films and sources that can help you better understand a specific period in history, and to pose some questions to help you think critically about them. We hope that these activities will not just introduce you to new material, but also get you asking the kinds of questions that you will be posing throughout your time with us. If they are about something new, why not do some internet research into the topic as you go?
These activities are not the only way you can get thinking about history this summer. To explore our suggestions for podcasts, films and even computer games, please see our summer resources page. And if you want to try out some targeted reading suggestions for our first-year modules in the department, please download our summer reading suggestions.
Lastly, if you're joining us via an integrated foundation year, you might also like to take a look here at some activities and information specifically to do with that year.
