Julie Tam works directly with Royal Holloway Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Julie Sanders, on UUK’s Climate Action and Sustainability group and attended the University at her invitation. While visiting, Professor Sanders attended a workshop to discuss the theme of environmental sustainability, attended by several colleagues from across the University and the Students’ Union (SU).

During this meeting colleagues showcased several completed and planned sustainability initiatives taking place at Royal Holloway, including how Royal Holloway’s commercial outlets are encouraging individuals to make more sustainable choices in their daily lives.

The workshop also included a summary of the modernisation works taking place, and how the University’s community is encouraging increased biodiversity across our campus, to the benefit of both our University and the local community.

As part of the sharing session, Julie Tam provided an update on UUK’s recently launched strategy, and discussed the various challenges facing the sector at the present time.

Professor Klaus Dodds, Executive Dean of the School of Life Sciences and the Environment, chaired the workshop.

Klaus said: “Having Julie Tam visit us provided a fantastic opportunity to take stock of all the hard work our students and colleagues have been doing since, and in many cases before, the launch of our inaugural Sustainability Strategy last year.

“We greatly value our partnership with Universities UK and look forward to continuing to work with them and other universities to boost sustainability towards the top of the national agenda.”
