Research contributes to call for stronger health measures in Uganda to counter risks for future pandemics

Dr. Maureen Ayikoru recently participated in a workshop in Uganda, where she shared her team's study which focused on the analysis of Uganda’s healthcare system, especially investigating the healthcare professionals' (HCPs) experiences during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was covered extensively by the media in Uganda, including on Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) TV and the Uganda Radio Network (URN), and led to constructive discussions on ongoing research opportunities.

Carbon problems in the rental market 

Head of our Department of Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship, Professor Tom Wainwright, was interviewed by Canadian media company Corporate Knights, which focuses on sustainable business. Tom was able to add insight into the contradictions in government policy for housing developers that often mean unsustainable methods are cheaper than retrofitting, for their article which focussed on the carbon problems within the rental market.

Panel discussion on UK Employment Rights Bill

Chris Rees, Professor of Employment Relations, took part in a panel discussion on how employment rights and corporate governance reform can help the government to boost pay and productivity and reduce inequality in response to the UK government introducing the Employment Rights Bill in October 2024.

IOD ‘Better Director Series’ event at Royal Holloway 

On November 13, the Institute of Directors held the latest instalment of their ‘Better Director Series’ events at Royal Holloway. We were pleased to host Chief Economist Anna Leach and the Bank of England's deputy agent for Greater London, Lai Wah Co, alongside a panel of experts to explore the topic of ‘The financial landscape post-election for SMEs’.
