  • Date22 November 2016

On September 22, 2016, Michael Ogakgole received an award from the British Computer Science for his final-year project.

BCS Award Michael

Michael receives the award from Ray Long, President of the BCS

Michael showed brilliance and initiative throughout the degree, but his final-year project particularly allowed him to shine.

The aim of his project was to build an application for computing and evaluating the Value at Risk of portfolios containing stocks and derivatives. Users of the application are able to pick and choose the securities they wish to evaluate and also the methods they wish to use for doing so, for example Historical Simulation, Model-building or Monte Carlo simulation.

The topic was chosen based on the work that Michael did during his Year-in-Industry placement at Goldman Sachs in 2014-15. Michael was offered a permanent job there after graduating, which he happily took.

Michael also won a departmental prize for Best Finalist of 2016 and the Martin Holloway Prize 2016 for the best student in the Faculty of Science with regard to academic and intellectual distinction.

The BCS award recognises every year outstanding final-year projects, professionally delivered.
