Our students say

Electronic Engineering is a dynamic and diverse community of undergraduate and postgraduate students and staff with a real sense of camaraderie between staff and students.

The high levels of satisfaction from our students are reflected in the latest league tables, where our department is ranked 1st for student experience and 1st for teaching quality in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, 2024. We are also placed 1st for student satisfaction and 1st for student continuation in the Complete University Guide, 2024.

In summer 2023 we received the results of our student feedback in the latest National Student Survey (NSS), revealing positive feedback in key areas. Highlights include:

  • 100% students said they can access specific equipment and facilities for their course
  • 94% students said marking and assessment has been fair
  • 94% students said IT resources and facilities have supported my learning well

In the words of Dr Steve Alty, Head of Department: "Thank you to the class of 2023, for reflecting so positively on your experience with us!"

Read what some of our students say about their experience of studying here:

"I have been enjoying the close, smaller engineering community as it's very difficult to know all your classmates when there is a larger number of students. The lecturers and staff are excellent, very helpful at all times. They are very responsive to any queries and comments. I personally have really enjoyed the hands on practicals, especially embedded systems. This includes the use of myRIO to build an autonomous vehicle. In general I'm very happy with the course and a new building with brand new equipment is a big plus!"

Fadi, BEng 2nd year undergraduate

"My experience here at Royal Holloway has been nothing other than positive. One of the most unique things about the Electronic Engineering department here at Royal Holloway is the close relationships students have built with the academic staff and the personal interest each lecturer takes with each and every one of their students. It is an environment where questions are always welcome and answered, and students never feel patronised. The challenges this course presents are always interesting, and the support of the department makes anything feel possible."

Maria, BEng 2nd year undergraduate

"I chose Royal Holloway because the MSc Engineering Management matched perfectly with what I was looking for. It provided me with the skills and tools to improve my future career as an engineer, and I gained extensive knowledge in subjects that really interest me such as Renewable Technologies and Technology Management. I’ve made strong friendships that I’m sure will last forever."

Delfina, MSc Engineering Management

"My experience at Royal Holloway has been truly amazing. I’ve loved every second of it and the lecturers were extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this MSc programme to any new budding scientists or engineers who are looking to get into a management position within a company, as key life skills will be taught through this MSc."

Natasha, MSc Engineering Management

"I pursued a career in software engineering before joining the MSc in Project Management at Royal Holloway. I’ve learnt skills from professors who are scholars in their fields and this course has not only boosted my self-confidence but also has opened new doors. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a career as a project manager and to study in a place which feels like a home away from home."
