New Daughters of Africa: a celebration

Margaret Busby is an esteemed alumna of Royal Holloway (Bedford College, one of the founding institutions of Royal Holloway University of London). She was Britain's youngest and first black female publisher when in the 1960s she co-founded the publishing house Allison and Busby. In 1992 she edited Daughters of Africa, an anthology of words and writings by women of African descent from Ancient Egyptian to contemporary times. She has this year released a much-awaited further volume New Daughters of Africa (2019) which includes a contribution from Royal Holloway Department of English's very own Nadifa Mohamed.

The English Department is proud to host Margaret Busby for this celebration of her achievements, which will include an introduction to Margaret's life and work by Professor Lavinia Greenlaw (Director of the MA Creative Writing), a reading from New Daughters by Nadifa Mohamed, followed by a Q&A session with Margaret herself. Refreshments and a chance to mingle and discuss will be provided after the talk.
