Field trip to London

Field trip to London

Field trip to London - Human Geography

London’s position as a leading world city is clear.  This fieldtrip allows students to explore the dynamic nature of London’s communities, public spaces and districts through a five-day fieldtrip.  Students develop their own research projects earlier in term with guidance from a member of staff.  Following 1-2 days of group activities in the fieldtrip week, students then conduct their independent research. Themes covered in previous years have included food and identity, urban regeneration and social inclusion, museums and representation.

Tate Modern London

This is a non-residential trip and students’ travel costs to London from Egham are covered.

Field trip to London - Physical Geography

This local non-residential fieldtrip provides students with the opportunity to develop their field and laboratory skills in soil, water and vegetation analysis.  The overall theme of the course is to understand environmental pollution.  The trip includes work in Hounslow and in King’s Cross at the Skip Garden. After two days of sampling, students work in the laboratories at RHUL to analyse the samples.  To support this course there is a talk from a local council officer responsible for environmental pollution monitoring.  The course is assessed through a 6,000 word report based on the findings of the analysis.
