Culinary connections, globalisation and changing places – Professor Philip Crang

In this talk Professor Philip Crang uses the example of food to explore how our local places are shaped by past and present global connections. Taking examples ranging from McDonalds to the high street curry house and Pizza Express, we’ll think about different forms of culinary globalisation, the global connections they create, and how they shape our contemporary global senses of place. The talk, associated summary sheet and classroom activity support the ‘Changing Places’ (AQA) and ‘Changing Spaces, Making Places’ (OCR) A-level topics.
