Why Royal Holloway?

I chose Royal Holloway because it was the best of all worlds at the time of beginning my PhD. With a very strong history department, access to all of the resources of the University of London system, and the added benefit of a calm, peaceful and almost rural campus despite its London location, this university was ideal for me and many others.

My Research

My doctoral research focuses on the representation of women, gender and power in the Old Norse kings’ sagas. In short, how are powerful women and their social and political opportunities perceived in Medieval Scandinavian historiography looking back at the more pagan and mythical Viking Age?
