Launch of the TECHNE diversity hub

Launch of the TECHNE diversity hub

  • Date09 February 2023

Techne have launched a diversity hub to support students of colour during their doctoral journeys. The resource will help students receive feedback on their research proposals, give them a private space to access support from other students of colour, and showcase their creative work.

The diversity hub is one of the main projects of Racial Justice Fellows, Nour El-Gazzaz, from the Department of English, Khadijah Naeem, from the Department of Law & Criminology, and Victoria Burgher, from the School of Arts at the University of Westminster.  Working collaboratively with academics, the Fellows have created a much-needed space for students of colour to access the support they need.

The Hub is designed to address the under-representation of students of colour in PGR programmes, especially in Arts and Humanities disciplines. Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) data on studentships from 2013-2021 showed that only 3.46% of awards went to “BAME” applicants. Additionally, a 2020 survey found that under 1.4% of staff in Classics identified as being from an ethnic minority.

If you are a prospective or current student of colour, check out the diversity hub and the range of services it offers.
