About the performers
The Egham Band is a Championship Section Brass Band based in Egham, Surrey, with history dating back to 1895. They play an active role in the local community, taking part in parades, concerts, celebrations, and more. They also have a thriving youth programme which teaches brass to over 150 children across three local junior schools, progressing onto a series of youth bands. This year they are thrilled to be one of Mayor Cllr Elaine Gill’s chosen charities. Read more.
With a Salvation Army brass band background, Yorkshire-born Gareth Green started learning the cornet and piano at the age of seven and went on to study music at Royal Holloway College in Egham, specialising in performance, arranging and conducting, graduating in 1982 with a B.mus (Hons.) degree. Later, at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies in Greenwich, he studied composition with Edward Gregson. The Summer of 1983 found him spending six weeks touring Italy as associate Principal Trumpet with the “Orchestra Internazionalles Jeunesses Musicales”. Returning to Egham in 1985 he became Assistant Musical Director of the Egham Band, which led to his appointment as Musical Director six years later. At the same time, he began associations with several local Amateur Operatic Societies, both as orchestral player, and later as Musical Director, a position which often involves filling in on the piano for rehearsals! Gareth is also the resident accompanist for the Spelthorne Young Voices choir. Read more.
