About the composer

Cyprus-born (b. 1998), now London-based, Kyriakos Costa is a Cypriot composer, pianist and music educator, mostly influenced by the Greek folk and alternative rock music stage. Kyriakos studied Composition and Piano at Royal Holloway University of London, where he graduated with First Class Honours in 2020.

Regarding the aforementioned fields, Kyriakos was privileged to be taught under the supervision of Dr. John Trail, Dr. Nina Whiteman and Matthew Stanley, Dr. Mary Dullea and the Tippet Quartet, respectively.

As a standard member in two Philharmonic bands in Cyprus, serving as a trombonist, Kyriakos Costa participated in numerous concerts with famous Greek singers, such as Dionysis Savvopoulos, Vasilis Lekkas, Pantelis Thalassinos and Iro Saia. In 2019, he worked alongside Themis Karamouratidis and Natassa Bofiliou as a pianist in two voice masterclasses that took place in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Kyriakos’s passion for music drove him to attend numerous masterclasses with: Simon Watterton, Marios Papadopoulos (Piano Performance), Alkinoos Ioannidis (Composition), Marios Takoushis (film scoring), Michalis Kapilidis (Rhythm and Improvisation), Babis Papadopoulos (Arranging).

In March 2020, Kyriakos was listed as one of the Young Generation Composers of CoMA 2020 Festival of New Music, with his piece called ‘clockwise’.

In August 2020, he releases his first single: ‘Pedi Sto Prosfigosimo’ (Refugee Child on the Stamp), a poem by Angela Kaimaklioti, produced by the Cypriot composer, singer/songwriter Constantinos Lemesios.

Currently a PG student at Royal Holloway University of London, Kyriakos is one of Picture Gallery’s Composers in Residence, and their undergoing project will premiered in March 2021
