Barnabas Sharp’s passions for classical music, film scores and mathematical logic (currently studying Joint Honours Mathematics and Music) allow him to compose music that attempts to honour the classical tradition whilst incorporating experimental techniques that outline contemporary music’s fun side. His fascination with numbers help to apply logic and structure to his pieces, keeping an eye out for detail; but he also takes an interest in displaying a modern style of irony, alternating between seriousness and humour.
Sharp’s portfolio of music consists mainly of religious choral works drawn from the Catholic faith (e.g. ‘Salve Regina’, ‘Silent Night’, hymns). His other compositions include ‘Marsh Landscapes’ (10 movements for keyboard(s) and/or Loop Pedal), ‘The Pentagon Suite’ (5-movements for 5 clarinets), ‘eiπ+ 1 = 0’ (a String Quartet based on the equation), ‘Never Let Him Die’ (a song about 2016’s most popular internet meme) and 3 waltzes for piano.
