What did you study at Royal Holloway?

I studied Financial and Business Economics at RHUL as part of the Economics faculty (and loved it!)

Why did you choose to study Economics at Royal Holloway?

The University and student accommodation is in a beautiful location not far from Windsor Castle and Great Windsor Park. I fell in love with the University the first time I visited. As well as beautiful grounds, fantastic facilities and superb accommodation, the people I met were so warm and friendly.

Everyone I met (student representatives, administrators, catering staff, security, students, academic staff) couldn’t do enough to tell me about the RHUL experience and how much they enjoyed RHUL. The Economics faculty staff were super helpful, really interested in what was right for me as an individual student and went out of their way to help me get onto the right course. I was totally sold!

How did you find your experience at Royal Holloway?

It flew by and I loved it! The location, grounds, facilities, day-to-day operation, student facilities and experience were exactly what I had hoped they would be (with the inconvenience of COVID-19 added in!). The campus is made up of such diverse backgrounds, nationalities and experiences and it just all blends in a way that works brilliantly. It is such a safe place to be.

The Economics faculty were true to my early experience. Outstanding professors, and support team members, who go out of their way to help you have a great experience. The old adage of ‘the more you put in, the more you get out’ couldn’t be truer!

Would you recommend the Economics department to future students?

Wholeheartedly! The best bits were the ethos of togetherness the team have created, the ease with which you can find help and support, and the breadth of course content. One of my favourite things was the ability to select modules in my course, which allowed me to focus on the things that really interested me.

The dissertation was a challenging experience, but I quickly found people in other years that had lived through the process, and they were awesome in sharing tips and tricks on how to produce what the ‘markers’ were looking for.  The care and dedication of my ‘favourite’ Professors were first class.

How did the team help prepare you for life after University?

One of the really important things at RHUL, is that the University experience is not just about the academic side. The ‘whole life’ experience is great, with lots of traditional extra-curricular activities (like sport, clubs and societies), and lots of added value activities that prepare you for working life.

I attended career fairs, business discussions, and CV writing activities, but also got the chance to complete public relations training, a passport scheme that recognised your contribution to University life, advanced interview practice and other fun things that added value to my CV and personal experience.

What are your happiest memories of life in the Economics faculty?

  • Great teaching and support
  • Awesome facilities and resources
  • Students and staff that were super friendly, helpful and fun
  • A broader team spirit with people looking out for each other
  • I came away with a group of friends for life

What one piece of advice would you offer students thinking about coming to Royal Holloway?

Work hard from day one! You’ve got the time, the support and the resources to help you achieve the best possible grades and have an amazing start to working life after university. Grasp the amazing environment, support and knowledge with both hands because you are through it in a flash!
